The Underdog is an independent sports publication focused on Australian sport and Australian perspectives, with space for thoughtful coverage of the global game. We publish writing across Rugby Union, Rugby League, AFL, Cricket, Football (soccer), and other sports — we love sport in all its forms.
We’re interested in analysis, opinion, reported pieces, explainers, and long-form features that bring insight, context, or experience. Strong submissions have a clear point, are grounded in fact, and respect the reader’s intelligence. We’re open to new and emerging writers, as well as podcasters, YouTubers, and Substack writers adapting their work to written form. Diverse perspectives — including First Nations voices and women’s sport — are welcome.
At launch, The Underdog is a non-paying platform. Contributors receive a clear byline, an author profile, editorial freedom within standards, and promotion of their work, including links to their own platforms. As the site grows, monetisation models will be revisited with contributors in mind.
To submit, send a completed draft using the form below. We read all submissions, but can’t respond to everyone.
