Community Guidelines
The Underdog exists to publish independent sports journalism — sharp analysis, strong opinions, and informed debate. We welcome disagreement. We do not tolerate abuse.
At its core, our standard is simple: play the ball, not the man.
What we encourage
- Robust debate about sport, performance, selection, tactics, and governance
- Evidence-based arguments and informed opinions
- Respectful disagreement — challenge ideas, not people
- Passionate discussion that still plays the ball, not the man
What we don’t allow
- Personal abuse, harassment, or threats
- Hate speech or discrimination of any kind
- Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or religious vilification
- Persistent trolling, baiting, or bad-faith engagement
- Spam, self-promotion, or irrelevant links
Moderation
- We reserve the right to remove comments or content that breach these guidelines
- Repeat or serious breaches may result in bans without warning
- Moderation decisions are final
On criticism
We publish strong opinions and expect them to be challenged. Criticism of our work is welcome — provided it’s constructive, made in good faith, and plays the ball, not the man.
On contributors and journalists
Abuse directed at writers, contributors, players, officials, or other community members will not be tolerated.
Our standard
If it’s something you wouldn’t say face-to-face in a pub conversation about sport, it probably doesn’t belong here.
